Sitting Tall

Libby has quickly mastered the art of sitting upright after only about a week of practice. Up to that point I really hadn't been sitting her up consistently since she'd been so happy playing on her belly -- I'm glad to see she's a quick learner! The cute little smile is a result of sucking in her lips to explore her new tooth, and the rash on her chin is due to the constant drool. Next step: crawling!

Mommy's Big Helper

With all the baking that's been going on for the holidays, it's been great having a kitchen assistant! It's hard work, but as you can tell in the last photo, the job has its perks.

All I Want for Christmas...

... is my very first tooth! Yes, Libby's first tooth has officially made its appearance. Our baby girl is growing up! She's clearly in much better spirits today than she has been recently, and is fascinated with the new little sharp thing on her gums. I can't wait for that adorable two-toothy smile!

Tea for Two

With Siena recovering from a flu-like bug and freezing temperatures outside, it was the perfect morning for a tea party!

Pouring a hot cup of English Breakfast... Mommy's favorite.

One lump or two?

Delicious!

6 months old!

Wow... Our little Libby is halfway to her 1-year point already! Amazing. At 6 months, Libby is anything but a mellow baby. Squirming, scooting, rolling, banging, and yelling are what she's all about. She's never been a lap baby, and is even less so these days, arching her back and trying to squirm away as soon as you sit down. I finally had to put away the Bumbo after she repeatedly tried to escape from it, and just the other day she took a dramatic back dive out of daddy's arms -- luckily he was able to catch her in mid-flight! This girl just can't wait to move.

Along those lines, Libby is currently working on three major projects: sitting up well unaided, crawling, and cutting her first tooth. All are coming along quickly, and I wouldn't be surprised if she had accomplished all three by Christmas. Stay tuned!

Breakfast with Santa

The photo says it all. My favorite is Libby, who's looking at Siena thinking, "what's HER problem?". To be fair, Siena really didn't have a problem with Santa as long as Mommy was holding her -- it was the sitting in Santa's lap part that set her off. She even told Santa what she wanted for Christmas ("a little stove and a little kitchen"). The rest of our Saturday morning was great -- the event was gingerbread house making at Daddy's work / Mommy's high school, Villa Duchesne. We saved the gingerbread house components to assemble later... To be continued in a later post.

More photos from the morning:

Elizabeth and Mr. Claus. "What's the big deal, Sis?"

Daddy and his cutie patootie.

A rare photo with my two girls.

Siena and pal Owen. They're going to love it in 16 years when I pull out this photo on their way to the senior prom.

Picky and his best buddy. These two are inseparable when Picky is in town!

Lunch with St. Nicholas

Storytime at church this week had a St. Nicholas theme, and what fun the kids had making their own little miters to wear! We even had a visit from St. Nicholas himself, who handed out little bags of gold coins and candy canes to the little ones. Siena was having a ball until St. Nick showed up, when she jumped in my lap and held on to me for dear life. Hmm... Doesn't bode well for the upcoming visit to Santa Claus!

Starting Solids

We started introducing Libby to solids a couple of weeks ago (mmm... rice cereal!), but it's been a slow process thus far. She's still spitting out more than she is swallowing and usually just stares at me with a confused expression on her face after I've dumped a spoonful of food on her tongue. This is one area where she does NOT take after her father, as Joe was reportedly eating french toast and sausage at 5 months. Oh well! I'm in no rush to start baby food, so we'll probably just take our time until she shows a little more interest. Oh Libby, if you only knew what delicious treats await you!
