I've been dragging my feet with this post... I apologize! Our big post-Christmas goal was to get Libby potty trained, and I'm happy to report that she rose to the challenge! We repeated the 3-day, cold-turkey potty training method that worked so well with Siena, with amazing results. Libby was an absolute pro from the first moment she donned her new undies. She quickly caught on to telling us when she had to use the potty, and by the middle of Day 3 her accidents (or "learning opportunities") ceased completely. What was even more remarkable was the fact that she only had 2-3 bedwetting incidents in the first 2 weeks -- naptime included! She also spiked a fever around day 5 and was definitely out of sorts for a little while, but still managed to tell us when she needed to use the potty. We're SO proud of you, Libby!
From our point of view, I'd say that this round was a bit easier than when we potty trained Siena. Yes, Libby caught on a little faster and has been a bit more reliable. I also think we were better prepared for the amount of time and commitment it takes to really get it right -- you have to basically glue yourself to your toddler for 3 straight days, which isn't always easy with two other kiddos to look after. Thankfully we timed the 3 days during Joe's break so we were able to tag-team a little. I HIGHLY recommend the 3-day method by Lora Jensen to anyone with potty training in their future. Check it out at www.3daypottytraining.com. I've recommended it to friends and most have had great results.
A friend of mine was joking recently that he didn't understand the hype about getting your kids out of diapers. If anything, having them use the potty is MORE work on the parents' part than dealing with changing diapers. I completely agree -- it's not always a smooth road, especially during these first few post-training months. We've had a nasty diarrhea virus going around this week which has not been the easiest for Libby to deal with (or me, for that matter!). Still, we're rolling with the occasional accident... Libby is so proud of her big-girl status that it makes it all worth it (and she LOVES wearing her Minnie Mouse, My Little Pony, and Hello Kittie undies). Bye bye diapers, hello undies!
