Baby Elephant!
The girls and I spent a gorgeous Sunday morning at the zoo, where we were lucky enough to visit their newest addition: baby elephant Kenzi. Kenzi is a few months old but hasn't been let out for public viewing until this past weekend. Needless to say we were all very excited to meet her. It was by far one of the most successful zoo trips I've had, as nearly EVERY animal was out and about! They must be enjoying this beautiful fall weather as much as we are.

The girls had a great view of the elephants. Their favorite scene (which I didn't get a chance to photograph) was when the daddy elephant came over to "snuggle" the mommy elephant with the baby in between. Siena couldn't stop talking about it and kept saying "awww!!". Elephant love -- can't beat it.
Libby loves elephants! Her "word" for elephant is an attempt at a trumpet sound like Daddy's. It comes out more like a spit but is cute nonetheless.

Eckert's Fun Farm
The arrival of fall means the opening of the Eckert's Fun Farm in Millstadt -- the very BEST time a little kid can have in these parts. The Fun Farm seems to get better every year thanks to a combination of the new attractions they add and Siena being one year older (and better able to appreciate said attractions). As per tradition, we made our first visit of the year with our good friends and neighbors the Meinders. Siena and Dylan had SO much fun (as did Libby and Noah)... we could've stayed all night!

Daddy's girls
The girls loved the new giant tire swings. Libby thought they were especially delicious.
With my baby outside the animal pens. Unlike her big sister, Libby can get a bit skiddish around animals and prefers to view them from Mommy or Daddy's arms.
The corn maze was the hit of the night with these two. They'd run to a fork in the path, Dylan would say "which way?", Siena would point and enthusiastically shout, "THIS way!", and off they'd run. It was a good thing I managed to keep up, or they may still be out there!
Last year Siena refused to try even the pony rides. As you can see, she is thankfully over that fear.
The airplane ride was a hit as well. How fun it is to experience moments like this through your children's eyes. We can't wait to come back!

Dirt
Our girls can get sick of a house full of toys in 10 minutes, yet today they spent all afternoon happily occupied in a 3 x 3 square foot patch of dirt. Hooray for the outdoors and great weather! I think a beach trip may be in our future...

Libby Pics
Here are some recent solo photos of our silly Libby Jane. I also wanted to jot down some random Libby thoughts before I forget:
- Libby is obsessed with books right now, and is quite the speed reader. Sit her down on your lap with a pile of books, and she'll flip through them in no time. It's tough to get a word in to tell the story, and hopefully one of these days she'll slow down enough to listen!
- Libby gives GREAT hugs. Really, they're just the best. A big squeeze around the neck, followed by a back pat. What a sweetie!
- For some unknown reason, Libby loves carrying around Siena's undies. I know, it's a weird thing to write about on the blog, but it's so funny and random that I didn't want to forget it. I'll be folding laundry and she'll dive right it, grab a pair of Siena's undies, and walk around the house for the next hour clenching the undies tightly in her hand. Maybe it's a sign that she'll be potty trained early (we hope!).

Nightgowns and Pigtails
I've decided that there's nothing that says "little girl" like nightgowns, pigtails, and bows. I'm officially the mom of a little girl, as Siena received her first nightgowns this week (why are they so hard to find these days?). She seriously couldn't be cuter. She would wear them all day long if we let her and frequently requests to change into her nightgowns at naptime. Do they make nightgowns this cute for mommies?
Cross Country Challenge
The girls had a great time running with Joe in the annual Villa X-Country Family Fun Run. Siena reported that she enjoyed the mile-long ride but that it was "really bumpy." The free bagels at the starting line were a highlight, and the kids got a LOT of fun attention from the high school girls.

Arch Reprise
We took our second annual trip up the St. Louis Arch a few weeks ago to celebrate Daddy's last weekend of summer. The weather was gorgeous and the girls loved the views from the top -- Siena had a great time pointing out the tiny people, cars, trains, etc. They were glued to that little window and probably would have stayed there all day had we let them! How lucky we are to have such a great monument nearby.
