It's amazing to think that Libby will be turning three in just four short months (and amazing that it will be JUNE in just four short months!). In my mind age three is the end of toddlerhood and the beginning of little girl-hood, which of course is bittersweet. Every age has its rewards and challenges, but these toddler years seem to have equal parts BIG rewards and BIG challenges. I think I'll start with the challenges and end on a high note with the rewards... :)
Libby's toddlerhood hasn't always been easy, especially during the past few months when she's become increasingly independent and strong-willed. I predicted back at her one-year update that we'd have some challenging times, and unfortunately she hasn't proven me wrong! Thankfully the challenges are almost exclusively limited to bedtime, as she equates sleeping in her crib to some form of torture. And wow, can she scream! I definitely won't miss the cries (screams) of "Nuggle me! Nuggle me!" after we've already snuggled her for half an hour before putting her in bed. She seems to slowly be improving in this area and is usually okay if we wrap her up tight ("like a baby burrito") after songs and snuggles. This too shall pass!
Libby continues to be enamored by her baby sister. When Libby first wakes in the morning and is a bit sleepy/grumpy, all I have to do is bring Margaret into the room and she is immediately transformed into the happiest girl in the house. Libby's hugs can still be a bit rough on Margaret, which we're continually working on. I have a feeling at this point her aggression is more for attention, as she also seems to be struggling with not being the "baby" anymore. It's tough being in the middle! For the most part though she is a loving and doting big sister, cheering Margaret on through every new phase of babyhood.
As Siena says, "Libby is the funniest one in our house!" It's true -- the girl is one of a kind. Whether making up her own lyrics to favorite songs or saying "big pile!" in her funny voice or doing her hip-shaking "I have to go potty" dance, she is continually cracking us up. Just this morning she ran into our room first thing and started singing "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear pretzel, happy birthday to you!" Such a silly head. She LOVES to sing and has lately taken to marching around the house singing random songs at the top of her voice. Libby is LOUD, which is so interesting because when she's away from the house (or around someone new) she barely utters a word. We joke that she has two volumes -- "off" and "loud." She still loves all things Minnie Mouse, plays really well with Siena for the most part, loves to eat, loves her snuggle time with Mommy and Daddy, and is a great talker. We love you so much, little Junebug! Next stop: 3 years old!
