Summer out West: Fun with the Fam in Colorado

In early July we packed our bags, loaded up the car, and headed west for a month of fun with family and old friends. We began our vacation in Carbondale, Colorado, where we stayed at my parents' newly-completed "retirement home," Fly Low. What a treat! Of course, the REAL treat was spending lots of quality time with our friends and family, especially Siena's 96-year-old great-grandfather Pops. The guy is amazing!! Here are a few pics from our stay...
We woke early one morning and hiked up to Crater Lake at the base of the Maroon Bells peaks, just outside of Aspen. As you can see, it's unbelievably beautiful up there! Siena had a great time in her baby backpack.
My parents' dog, Millie. She and Siena are almost exactly the same age, and are great buds.
Pops and Auntie Jane brought a telescope to Fly Low as a housewarming present, and Pops has become quite the expert on the night sky. Here he is charting the constellations -- he's constantly researching and learning all he can about new topics. Quite impressive!
With Auntie Alice, Siena's "Fairy Godmother."
Dressed in stars for the 4th of July!
Siena and her great-grandpops.
Our friends Mike and Debbie have a homemade brick pizza oven in their backyard, and periodically host pizza parties for their lucky pals. Mmm mmm mmm!! Mike's pizza is reason enough to visit Glenwood as often as we can.
With Joe's sister Lizzy, who is completing an internship as one of the managers of the Aspen Music Festival.
Winnie and Picky's neighborhood has a GREAT pool, complete with waterslide. Siena wasn't so sure about it at first, but by the 20th trip down or so she'd grown to tolerate it.
Near Rifle, Colorado on the 4th of July for my friend Carrie's wedding. It was a gorgeous site, complete with rainbow (not quite visible in the background of this photo, but it's there).
